By age seven and eight, maths shifts from establishing basic foundations toward building genuine fluency and extending into multiplication, division and more complex place value. Here's what's typically developing at this stage.

Fluent Place Value Into the Hundreds

By this stage, most children can confidently work with numbers into the hundreds, understanding the value of each digit's position without needing to rebuild the concept from scratch each time, a meaningful step up from the beginning place-value work of age five to six.

Multiplication and Division Foundations

This is typically the window where multiplication is introduced as repeated grouping, using concrete materials like bead bars, and division as its inverse, sharing quantities equally. Fluent recall of multiplication facts (times tables) usually continues developing through age nine or ten.

Multi-Digit Addition and Subtraction
