The Courses

Three stages, one steady climb.

Each stage builds on the one before it, paced by the child, not the calendar. No lesson assumes the age band it wasn't written for.

3–6The Foundation

Montessori Beginnings

Hands-on number sense before symbols: bead chains, spindle boxes and sandpaper numerals adapted for live, one-to-one online teaching.

◆ Learning-difference aware from day one

6–8The Climb

Primary Maths

Bridging concrete to abstract: place value, early operations, and rebuilding confidence for children who've started to feel behind.

◆ Built for children who learn differently

8–10The Summit

Elementary Maths

Fluency and problem-solving, mapped to UK, Australian, US and Cambridge frameworks, ready for whatever curriculum comes next.

◆ Structured for dyscalculia & dyslexia

English Phonics

Structured, synthetic phonics for early readers: the same evidence-based, multisensory approach that underpins strong outcomes for children with dyslexia. Letter-sounds before whole words, blending before fluency, one child at a time.

Stage 1

Letter Sounds First

Every letter's sound before its name: the synthetic phonics sequence that gives dyslexic readers a reliable place to start.

Stage 2

Blending & Segmenting

Pulling sounds together into words, and pulling words apart into sounds, practised until it's automatic, never guessed.

Stage 3

Tricky & Sight Words

The words that don't play by the rules, taught explicitly rather than left for a child to memorise alone.

Stage 4

Reading With Confidence

Decodable books matched to exactly what's been taught, so every child reads a whole page successfully, not just sounds out a few words.

Our Speciality

Maths doesn't arrive the same way twice.

For children with dyscalculia, dyslexia-linked maths difficulty, or a broader mathematical learning disability, we teach structured, multisensory and sequential, never timed drills, never one-size-fits-all worksheets. Every plan is built around how this particular child takes in a number.

Questions

Frequently asked questions.

What ages does Mount Shine teach?

Children ages 3 to 10, across three stages: Montessori Beginnings (3-6), Primary Maths (6-8) and Elementary Maths (8-10).

Do you teach children with dyscalculia or dyslexia?

Yes, that's our specialty. Every stage is built to be structured, multisensory and paced to the child, which works well for children with a diagnosed learning difference and for children who are simply struggling with maths or reading.

Which countries do you teach families in?

We currently teach families in Kuwait, Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States, alongside families in India. Lesson timings are arranged around your time zone.

Is this Montessori maths, or a standard school curriculum?

The foundation stage (ages 3-6) follows the Montessori sequence: concrete materials before symbols, symbols before abstraction. From age 6 onward, we bridge into standard curricula (UK, Australian, US and Cambridge frameworks) so a child stays aligned with their local school.

Are lessons live, or pre-recorded videos?

Every lesson is live and one-to-one with a real teacher. We don't use recorded courses or self-paced apps.

Do you also teach English phonics?

Yes. Alongside maths, we teach structured, synthetic phonics for early readers, ages 3 to 10, using the same evidence-based approach that helps children with dyslexia.

Is Mount Shine only online, or is there a physical school too?

Both. Live online classes serve our international families, and we also run a physical learning center in Kilambakkam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, with in-person maths and phonics sessions plus a children's book collection.
